What We Believe
...If you are trying to find your place in a church, but wonder how long it will take to find out just what sort of church it is, this should make things a little easier! Churches are not 'one size fits all', and that is certainly the case here at People's Church. We are a church that has escaped the trappings of man's traditions in order to embrace the purity of all that the Word of God has to offer (Mark 7:8-13). I, as the pastor of the church, recognize my role not as the center of ministry that we as a church are called to, but much like a coach's role on a team. The role to equip, train and enable everyone to discover the ministry to which God has called each of us to (Ephesians 4:11-13). This is accomplished by the combination of many facets of ministry, which every believer should find him or herself committed to:
1. Hearing of the Word- Not just an inspiring message derived from the idea that the obligation of the church is to impress those attending, but an unabashed commitment to presenting the Word of God in all it's fullness and power. This is not a place for baseless doctrinal exclusion, but instead one of absolute adherence to all that the Scripture offers. (II Timothy 4:1-4)
2. Inspired Worship- We do not see praise and worship as a prelude to the message, but rather a necessary personal connection between the Heavenly Father and His children who He adores. We are not looking for the latest song in a fad-driven church culture, and neither are we ruled by the traditions of the past. We worship our God with all of our strength, because He deserves nothing less! Whether a song has been just released or passed down for over a hundred years, we will sing in the knowledge that our audience is that of One and our only concern is the pleasure He receives from our worship. (John 4:23)
3. Demonstration of Power- We do not believe anything in God has passed, but instead that He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. The power of God in miracles, signs and wonders is His calling card to verify His magnificent presence. We have a God who loves us, and, whether before or after His receiving us in Salvation, He continues to express His love in His power towards us. It is this very power operating in the lives of every believer who gives Him place to do so, which demonstrate to us as Christians that we have a surety in which to place our faith and for the unbeliever an expression of love that cannot be measured. (I Corinthians 2:4-5, 12:1-11; Mark 16:17-18)
4. Discipleship- We are not interested in mediocre Christianity. Jesus did not command us to make converts or create an environment conducive to passivity or some moderate version of Christianity, but rather to make disciples! Our Christian walk should be that of one from faith to faith, glory to glory. We desire a never-ending pursuit of a life in Christ that unceasingly explores the depths of His love, unquenchably thirsts for every moment in His presence, insatiably hungers for the truths found only in His Word, and uncompromisingly committed to obeying the will of our Lord. We follow the example of our Lord Jesus by fellowshipping in small groups like that of Him and His disciples which enables us to best support one another in this commitment of discipleship. Our Connection Groups meet all over the city and are led by those who know the importance of constantly growing into the men and women God has called us to be.
5. Evangelism- Whether across the street or around the world, we have one measure of success as a church, Souls! After being bought with a price, we are given a mission. It is the very mission for which Jesus was sent from Heaven, to recover that which had been lost. We feel as if the church, in many cases, has turned itself inside out and become backwards in it's approach in relation to what we see in Scripture. Too many churches have become consumed with the idea of how to try and get people to come to church, while God is trying to figure out how to get the church to go to the world! Our church home is a place to receive and grow, but the world outside that church is the place where we labor and love. The four walls of the church can be very useful, but if we get stuck in there we become useless.
